Before joining the Education for Liberation Network Tara worked as the Arts Organizer for The Brotherhood/Sister Sol, a youth organization based in Harlem. She developed an innovative new program for The Brotherhood/Sister Sol called the Community Museum, in which teenagers researched and created multimedia exhibitions about local issues. Prior to joining The Brotherhood/Sister Sol she worked as the Program Coordinator for Groundswell Community Mural Project, a community arts organization in Brooklyn, where she was responsible for organizing and supervising collaborative mural projects with local community groups and youth. Tara moved to New York from London where she worked as the Education Associate for Talawa, a black theater company, organizing the company’s education and outreach programs for youth. From 1998 to 2003 Tara worked as a print and radio journalist. Her writing has appeared in major media outlets including The Washington Post, the BBC World Service, The Chicago Tribune, Newsweek, The Guardian, and Ladies’ Home Journal
